The idea:

If you're here, reading this - I bet you're a self-starter.  You may have taught yourself a lot of what you know about humanitarian data management.

So many humanitarian data managers, especially those in local NGOs, in deep field locations, or in remote teams, have questions about specific KoboToolbox issues, or want feedback on new ways of using XLSForms, KoboToolbox, or ODK.

They just want to know:

"Is this the best way of doing it?  Is this professional?"

Every week, I put out free training resources.

But I've been wondering if it would be a good idea to offer weekly group coaching sessions to a few people who are beginning to implement mobile data collection into their humanitarian teams.  Who want deeper support as they move forward.

I wondered if there are people out there who would appreciate some dedicated learning time through group coaching.

Would you benefit from weekly coaching??

Are YOU improving your skills in KoboToolbox and XLSForm? Would YOU benefit from some dedicated coaching time each week?

If this sounds interesting...keep reading.

What the coaching would look like:

  • Each Wednesday, for four weeks, we jump on a one hour Zoom call together.
  • Just a few of us on the call (max 6), so there's sufficient time for everyone to get focused support.
  • Before the call, you'll send me a question you have about mobile data collection, something you're currently working on.
  • During the call, I'll summarize answers, and I'll coach you through the answers during the call.
  • You'll not only benefit from getting your questions directly answered, but you'll also get to see the questions other people are asking, and the answers to those questions.

The purpose of the coaching will be to improve your skills and implementation of data collection into your team.

I'll get you to set your improvement goals and expectations at the beginning of the coaching sessions, and I'll help you move towards those goals throughout the coaching seasons.

The details:

  • It would be £15 ($18.50 USD) per session per person (so £60 or $74 for the four sessions), so that it's affordable to people from most organisations.
  • I'll only have a limited number of spots, because I want to keep the group size small so you get dedicated support during the call.  (so please do email asap if you're interested)
  • Each session will be recorded and you'll have access to the recording after the calls so you can review them and implement through the week.
  • This is a brand new initiative, so if you're interested in being part of this small group, I can't promise you perfection, but I can promise you dedicated support to move you forwards.  There might be bumps along the way, but we'll have fun.  And you'll have lots of opportunity for feeding into the process and helping to shape the future of what "data coaching" might look like.

Dates and Times:

The four sessions will be held at:

12:30-1:30pm (UK Time)

  • Wednesday, May 20th
  • Wednesday, May 27th
  • Wednesday, June 3rd
  • Wednesday, June 10th

About the instructor

Director

Janna Rous

Hi!  I'm Janna!  And I've got to come clean - I LOVE working with data, numbers, and maps. I LOVE being a humanitarian aid worker!  And I LOVE brainstorming with my peers about how we can use information management tools to make our humanitarian programmes ROCK.I'm a Water Resources Engineer with a background in computer modelling of watersheds.  I've worked with some PRETTY DARN BIG datasets, models, and mapping projects over the years.  But I'm not just a numbers gal...I've been working and volunteering in the international development and humanitarian sectors for over 13 years!  I've managed WASH, health, nutrition, shelter, cash, and information management programmes as part of a senior management team for over 3 years, and have lived and worked in the Middle East, Sudan, and Ghana. My passion now is combining my love of data with my love of emergency response to help aid workers all over the world become proficient in using information management tools to make their programmes more efficient, more accountable, and more timely. I currently live in the UK with my best friend (who also happens to be my husband - yay!!) and our beautiful baby girl.

If you want to keep growing your skills, I'd love you to be in this very first coaching group!
